Both records below extracted from A.W.M. N/A Listed twice. Major Denzil Macarthur-Onslow was appointed by Ferguson to lead NSW A Squadron. Set up Camp at Ingleburn 30/10/1939 as first representative of the new army. Appeared on the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald leading the New A.I.F. down Martin Place. The only one in step. Awarded D.S.O. after leading with distinction in the Western Desert and in the Syrian Campaign where he was present at the surrender of the Vichy French in Acre. Succeeded Fergusson as C.O. Transferred to Armoured Regiment and discharged as Brigadier by war's end.
