Brief History

 VIEW COMPLETE SERVICE RECORD

After transferring to the A.I.F. Abe had two tours of duty in New Guinea; the first stint began in November  1943 when he arrived in Buna off the Duntroon, the second when he joined the Regiment in May 1945 just after the Dove Bay Landing. Arriving at Aitape aboard the U.S.S. Gorgon on 01/06/1945. New Guinea, as with so many of our soldiers, was unkind to Abe, plaguing him with Dengue Fever and Malaria. A tribute to his physical fitness is that he not only survived, but went on to become a rugged footballer post war. (Photos Supplied by Daughter and associate member Vicky more Details required)
