(2/6 Cavalry Commando Regiment,) as 2/7 Commando Squadron along with the well trained, but less experienced in Jungle Warfare, 2/9 and 2/10 Squadrons. after imparting invaluable knowledge and skills gained from their earlier expedition against the Japanese, He along with the newly reinforced 2/7,2/9,2/10 squadrons, moved to Townsville and boarded the "Katoomba".In October 1944 the Regiment sailed to Aitape and proceeded with the liberation of P.N.G. at the forefront of the Aitape Wewak Campaign by 6th. Australian Division culminating in the Unconditional surrender of the Japanese in August 1945.
