Brief History
Con Joined 2/7 Aust Independent coy at Tida; River Vic.  and after training landed at Port Moresby in October the same year and moved out to Wau and learnt all the tracks and terrain to Mubo; moved to  Skindiawai in December then up to the Saddle at Mubo. Back to Moresby in May 43 then on to Bena Bena , Goroka and the Ramu Valley until December 1943. Back in Australia for Christmas leave. Then in 1944 at Wondecla on the Atherton Tablelands, the unit (2/7) became part of the senior Regiment of the A.I.F. (2/6 Cavalry Commando Regiment,) as 2/7 Commando Squadron along with the well trained, but less experienced in Jungle Warfare, 2/9 and 2/10 Squadrons. After imparting invaluable  knowledge and skills gained from their earlier expedition against the Japanese, He along with the newly reinforced 2/7,2/9,2/10 squadrons, moved to Townsville and boarded the "Katoomba".In October 1944 the Regiment sailed to Aitape and proceeded with the liberation of P.N.G. at the forefront of the Aitape Wewak Campaign by 6th. Australian Division culminating in the unconditional surrender of the Japanese in August 1945.
