TROOPS MOURN MASCOT

(Cavalry News 6 Div Cav Commando May 1987)

Soldiers at Holsworthy's 2 Cavalry Regiment are mourning the death of their special mascot.  It was a female Australian wedgetail eagle, named Sergeant Courage .

The bird died of a kidney infection after 20 years service with the regiment.

Enlisted at the age of six weeks in 1967, Sergeant Courage enjoyed a remarkable career.

One of the highlights included an introduction to the Queen in Canberra in 1972.

"Not always a lady but pride of our regiment," was the tribute the soldiers paid to their gallant Sergeant Courage.
