Vale Lance Corporal Jack Fitzgibbon of 2nd Commando Regiment PDF Print E-mail
 It is with much sadness that we mourn the loss of Lance Corporal Jack Fitzgibbon who was tragically killed during a parachute training exercise on the 6th March 2024.  Jack was just 33 years.
 
Our thoughts and prayers are extended to all of Jack's family members, 2 Cav comrades, friends and to all those that loved him.

The 2nd Commando Regiment is a separate unit from 2nd Cavalry Regiment and is one of three combat-capable units within Special Operations Command and operates alongside other SOCOMD elements.  The role of the regiment is to conduct strategic strike, counter terrorism and special recovery operations.

We have been advised by daughter Wendy that 2/6 Vet Rex Davidson passed away on the 6th December, 2023 at the age of 99.
 
Our thoughts and prayers are extended to all of Rex's family members, friends and to all those that loved him.

Rex enlisted for service at Brighton, Tasmania on the 17th June, 1943 at the age of 18 and was discharged on the 13th September, 1946.  His basic service details can be read here .

Entered into eternal life by the Grace of God through Jesus Christ.

Loved son of Violet and Bertram (both dec).

Now reunited with his diamond Natley.

Cherished father of Christine, Lynette and Wendy.

Loyal brother to Fay.

Adored Poppy Rex to all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A true friend to all.

 These three things remain - faith, hope and love, but love is the greatest.

Funeral Arrangements

Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service for Mr Rex Bertram Davidson held at the Mornington Funeral Home, 25 McIntyre Street, on Thursday (December 14, 2023) at 10:00am. In lieu of floral tributes donations were invited to be made to City Mission in Rex’s memory and would be warmly received at the service.  Private cremation.

Family member Don Lawson passed away on the 13th April, 2023 at the age of 84.
 
Our thoughts and prayers are extended to his loving wife Margaret and all family members, friends and all those that loved him.

Margaret and Don began their membership with the Association in memory of Margaret's uncle the late Captain Les Stewart VX6628 who served in 2/6 and passed away in 1989.  Together Margaret and Don attended many Association Events. 

 

A tribute to Don will be published in Cav News Edition 112.

We have been advised by daughter Prue that 2/6 Vet Edward (Ted) MacMillan passed away on the 5th November, 2022 at the age of 97.
 
Our thoughts and prayers are extended to all of Ted's family members, friends and to all those that loved him.

Ted enlisted for service on the 26th April, 1944 at the age of 18 at Cowra NSW and was discharged on the 25th November, 1946.  His basic service details can be read here .

Vale Donald (Don) MacPherson (2/9) VX 107177 PDF Print E-mail
We have been advised that 2/6 Vet Donald (Don) Munro MacPherson passed away on the 26th July, 2022 at the age of 100 years, and just three weeks short of his 101st birthday.
 
Our thoughts and prayers are extended to all of Don's family members, friends and to all those that loved him.

Cav News No. 108 (October 2021) (pages 12-13) featured a special article  on how Don celebrated his 100th birthday at the Opal Aged Care Facility in Paynesville on the 14th August 2021.  (Link)

 

Don enlisted for service on the 18th August, 1942 at the age of 21 in Perth and was discharged on the 13th February, 1946.  His basic service details can be read here.

 

 Funeral Notice

 

The funeral of Mr Donald Munro MacPherson of Mt Taylor, will leave Our Chapel, 613 Main Street, Bairnsdale, after a service commencing at 1.30pm on Friday (Aug. 5), 2022, for the Bairnsdale Lawn Cemetery.

Don’s funeral service was streamed online.

Passed away peacefully at Paynesville Gardens. A quiet man who made a big impact on all of us. You truly had a great innings. Beloved husband of Rosa (dec.). Loved father of Ian and Vicki, Neil and Lyne, Ross and Lorry. Cherished grandfather to Jonathan and Laura, Sam and Jaana, Letesha and Angus. Adored great grandfather to Jack, Rosie and Arlo. Friend of Christine.
