Greetings to all Cav News readers and welcome to your new look Cav News!  I hope you enjoy reading all the various reports and submissions contributed by members from NSW and Victoria. Special thanks to veterans Keith Johnston and Harry Bell for their faithful contributions and for keeping us informed re the welfare of other veterans.

Big thanks to Robert Stafford for taking over the role of editor from retired editor Lola Workman. Over many years Lola and Ted have faithfully ensured the bi-annual production of Cav News and on behalf of the Victorian Committee and members I wish to sincerely thank them for all their hard work, dedication and commitment. Great job Lola and Ted! We wish you all the best for future endeavours and good health!

I also wish to pay tribute to the NSW Association President Ralph Martin and all his committee for their commitment to 2/6 Cavalry Commando Regiment over past years. It has been a tough decision for NSW to wind up their Association and we hope all goes as smoothly as possible over the next 3 months.

A special cheerio to our Patron Jim Muir who has been finding it difficult with reduced mobility. We are thinking of you and hope to see you at our AGM coming up soon!

The Victorian Association aims to keep going as long as possible but for us to do this we desperately need new committee members to come on board. Succession planning is paramount for our longevity so please give it serious consideration and feel free to contact Robert or myself for further information.

Our relationship with 2nd Cavalry Regiment continues to strengthen and we are very grateful for all their support.  A trip to Townsville last year (see my full report on page 19) was very informative and enjoyable. It was sad to say farewell to Lt. Col. Davis, however we look forward to getting to know the new Commanding Officer - Lt. Col. Chambers over the next few years.

Finally, as you turn the pages of this Cav News, maybe with your feet up and a cuppa in hand, please spend a few minutes silently reflecting on fellow comrades who have taken the ultimate journey through mud and blood to the green fields beyond.

Lest We Forget.

Yours faithfully,

Susan McLaughlin
